This is one of our favorite restaurants. It’s loud, unpretentious, and super casual, and the food is great. The specialty is fresh shucked oysters, and they offer several varieties. Your oysters aren’t shucked and cooked until after you’ve placed your order. My faves are the oysters topped with crabmeat and cheese.
After slurping down a few oysters, you can order fried, broiled, or blackened fish; fried, steamed, or stuffed shrimp; fried oysters; lobster; quail; gator tail; and a host of other entrees. A.J.’s has an extensive appetizer menu, and sometimes in the fall when the Georgia Bulldog game is being televised, we’ll spend hours at A.J.’s watching the game and ordering appetizers! Cocktails, beer, and wine are offered, too.
Other than the aforementioned oysters, my favorites at A.J.’s are the fried shrimp, the fried green tomatoes, the hushpuppies, the crab-stuffed peppers, and the seafood salad. Actually, I haven’t eaten anything there that I didn’t like!
