Baked Fish Recipe: Gulf Sheepshead with Lime Butter

Enjoy this baked fish recipe for sheepshead

Looking for sheepshead fish recipes? Sheepshead are pretty common along the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts, although they’re not easy to catch. You kind of have to have a “knack” for hooking these wily bait-stealers. Once you learn to outsmart these convict fish, your efforts will be rewarded with a very tasty meal!

With this baked fish recipe, I don’t use a lot of spices or other seasonings. I like to be able to enjoy the mild, subtle flavor of the sheepshead itself. This is a simple, quick and easy fish recipe!

Holle’s Baked Sheepshead with Lime Butter

What you’ll need:

  • Sheepshead fillets, about one inch thick
  • Salt
  • White pepper
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • ¼ cup lime juice
  • Paprika
  • Lime slices

Directions: Rinse fillets well and pat dry. Sprinkle both sides of fillets with salt and white pepper.

Place sheepshead fillets in a buttered casserole dish.

Spoon lime butter over fish and spread evenly.

Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes. Apply more lime butter.

Cook for 8-10 minutes longer, until fish flakes easily with a fork.

To serve, sprinkle fillets with paprika and top with lime slices.
