I’ve just recently gotten into lobster rolls. Maybe it’s the warm spring weather we’ve been having. Of course, I’ll use any excuse to eat lobster – it’s my #1 favorite food of all time! I love just about every kind of seafood, and I’m always preparing fish recipes.

New England boiled dinner

This is a one-pot meal, the traditional boiled New England dinner, consisting of corned beef and cabbage, along with carrots, onions, and potatoes. You can use a fresh or corned beef brisket for this recipe, but I prefer the corned beef version. In my opinion, it gives the accompanying vegetables and potatoes much more flavor.

A great crock pot brisket recipe

This brisket recipe is cooked in the crock pot or slow cooker, and it’s delicious! It also smells wonderful cooking. For the apples, use tart baking apples like Granny Smith or Braeburn. Once the brisket is done, skim the fat from the liquid in the pot. Use the liquid as the base for a sauce by thickening it with flour or cornstarch. Actually, I like it “as is” over rice. It’s also great for dipping crusty bread!

Many New England recipes and cooking techniques were learned from the Native Americans. One such cooking method was steaming – the way traditional, old-fashioned Boston Brown Bread is prepared. The best way to cook this bread is in one-pound coffee cans. This recipe will make four round loaves, so you’ll need four metal cans. When the bread is done but still warm, spread it with cream cheese or butter.

Many New England recipes include cranberries. This is a quick and easy recipe for a delightful cranberry bread. It’s sweet and nutty, and it would be a great addition to your Christmas recipes, Thanksgiving recipes, or other holiday recipes. A loaf of this bread makes a great gift, too. Just wrap it in colored cling wrap and tie a ribbon around it!

If you like authentic New England recipes, you’ll like this one. This is an old traditional recipe for Boston Baked Beans. This isn’t a “shortcut recipe.” It’s made the old-fashioned way, with dried beans – not with beans from a can. Boston baked beans goes well with most any meat, and it’s even hearty enough to stand alone. Dried beans are high in protein and fiber, so this dish has some health benefits, too.

New England recipes are full of apple creations – for a good reason. Some of the tastiest apples in the world come from the New England states. These apples are turned into lots of delicious foods and drinks, one of which is hot apple cider. Not only does this hot beverage taste great – it also smells great! And sipping a mug of hot apple cider on a cold autumn or winter night is a great way to warm up.

An awesome old-fashioned apple pie recipe!

One of everyone’s favorite New England recipes, apple pie will fill your home with tantalizing scents as it bakes. This is a wonderful pie crust recipe, and the apple filling is both sweet and rich. Use any type of tart baking apple, including Braeburn, Winesap, Cortland, or Jonathan. My favorite pie apple, however, is Granny Smith. The Granny Smith has a nice tart flavor, and it keeps its shape well while baking. You might want to use a combination of different types of apples for your apple pie recipe!

Pork chops cooked with maple syrup

A key ingredient often found in New England recipes is pure maple syrup. With this recipe, I’ve tried other types of syrup, and the pork chops are still tasty. They’re not nearly as delicious without the real maple syrup, however. There’s just something wonderful about the marriage of pork and maple syrup!
