This is a great venison recipe that you can put together the night before and turn on the crock pot the next morning before you go to work. When you return home, you’ll have a complete meal that’s ready to eat – a deer roast plus savory veggies and potatoes.

What you’ll need:
- 6 dressed doves
- Italian dressing
- Green onions
- 6 slices thick bacon
- Toothpicks that have been soaked in water for several hours
- Seasoned salt
Before placing doves on the grill, be sure to wash them thoroughly and remove any visible birdshot. Next, place birds in a plastic container with a lid and cover with commercial Italian dressing. If you prefer, use other grilling marinades. Leave doves in the marinade for several hours.

Fried quail are absolutely delicious! Even most people who don’t care for wild game or game birds like quail. The flesh is white and has a mild flavor, unlike many other game birds. Before frying, either cut birds in half down the back, or spread them out flat with your hands. This allows for more even cooking. This recipe is even better when you include the cream gravy, or as it’s sometimes called, Southern cream gravy.

Deer steaks can be delicious and tender, or they can be tough and “gamey.” Some of this depends on the deer itself, of course, but part of it depends on how the venison is prepared and cooked, too. For example, shoulder steaks from an old buck aren’t going to be as tender and tasty as the backstraps from a young animal. There are a couple of ways that you can help the meat, so to speak.
