Poached Pears with Honey-Rum Sauce
My ex-sister-in-law, Toni Harris, sent me a bucket of pears from her tree today, so I started running through the rolodex in my head for dessert recipes. Finally, I decided to make some poached pears for our dessert tonight, and they were great. Thanks, Toni!
By the way, if you want a richer red color, add a few drops of red food coloring to the poaching liquid.
Poached pears with Honey-Rum Sauce recipe
What you’ll need:
- 3-4 small pears
- 2 ½- 3 cups red fruit punch
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
- ½ cup rum
- ¼ cup honey
- 1 tablespoon butter
Directions: Remove a slice from bottom end of pears so that they’ll stand. Peel pears and set aside.
Combine fruit punch, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves in a small pot. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to simmer. Simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in all but 1 tablespoon rum and add pears. Cover and gently cook pears for about 30 minutes, turning occasionally.
Combine remaining rum, honey, and butter. Microwave until butter has melted. Blend until smooth. Drizzle over cooked pears.

Oh yum – would that go well with peaches, too? My favorite but pears are right up there~
I’m not sure peaches would be firm enough. I’ll have to give it the old college try! lol
Hey Holle, I got pears off of Daddy’s pear tree when I was up there Saturday. I’m going to try this but without the cloves or maybe just a pinch! I will work on my recipe for you this weekend. Great to see you this past weekend!
Great to see you, too, Orbit! Check out my recipe for pear and cheese pizza. It’s great!
