Quick and Easy Desserts

Quick and easy desserts

If you’re throwing a party for Memorial Day, July 4, or Labor Day, you might appreciate some quick and easy desserts with a patriotic theme. Use store bought angel food cake or tart shells and fresh fruit to accomplish this. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Slice fresh strawberries and add sugar and a small amount of water. You can also use whole raspberries. Let the fruit chill in the fridge for several hours until a light syrup forms. Slice angel food cake and top with strawberries and syrup. Place a dollop of whipped cream on top and add a few blueberries.

Make patriotic parfaits by filling a clear glass 1/3 full of cherry jello. When jello firms, add blueberries and whipped cream. If you’re having a casual outdoor event, use clear plastic cups instead of parfait glasses.

Purchase ready-made tart shells and fill them with vanilla pudding or instant cheesecake filling. Top with blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and/or cherries. Spoon commercial strawberry glaze over the fruits.

Buy an angel food cake or a round pound cake. Carefully remove the top inch. Hollow out the center of the ring and fill with blueberries. Prepare cherry jello and pour it over the blueberries before it congeals. Replace the top on the cake and spread Cool Whip over the top and sides. Refrigerate for several hours for the jello to firm. Slice and serve.
