Spicy Oven Fried Chicken recipe

This is a great version of traditional fried chicken recipes, but it’s a heck of a lot easier! You’ll still get that wonderful southern food flavor, however. You’ll love the spicy, crunchy coating on the exterior and the tender, juicy chicken flesh on the inside. To add some more heat to your oven fried chicken recipes, sprinkle on the hot sauce once the chicken is done!

Spicy Oven Fried Chicken Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 pounds chicken parts, with skin left on
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 ½ cups dry bread crumbs (unseasoned)
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 teaspoon Lawry’s garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs

Directions: Preheat oven to 400 and line a shallow baking pan with two layers of foil.

Rinse and dry chicken parts. Place flour in a bowl or bag.

Coat chicken in flour and set on plate at room temperature.

Combine bread crumbs, spices, and herbs in shallow plate or food bag. Whisk buttermilk and eggs together in a small bowl.

Melt butter in baking pan until hot.

Dip chicken, one piece at a time, in egg wash and dredge in bread crumbs.

Place chicken skin-side down in hot butter and bake for 25 minutes. Turn chicken and continue baking until juices run clear, about another 20-25 minutes. Drain and serve.
